When it comes to my skin care regimen, I follow one simple rule: less is more. I am fortunate to have relatively non-problematic skin and have never really had bad breakouts or acne (knock on wood). I don't really like to use too many products; instead, I stick to a handful of favorites and try to use relatively natural (and non-irritating) products.
Here are my top picks:
Trader Joe's Nourish All-In-One Facial Cleanser ($5.99)
I've been using this product for years. This cleanser is not your ideal makeup remover, which is why I only use this product in the morning. After I groggily get out of bed, I splash some water on my face with a small pump of this cleanser. It really helps freshen me up and is the perfect product to help kickstart my day. I love that this product doesn't leave my skin tight or dry.
Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer ($8.43)
This oil-free moisturizer is described as a salicylic acne medication, which helps to moisturize dry skin, treat and help prevent pimples. While I don't use this product necessarily for acne prevention, it is an added bonus. I like to mix a small amount of this moisturizer with my foundation.
Bioderma Crealine H20 Makeup Remover ($32, price varies depending on size)
It seems like every makeup guru swears by this product, and with good reason. This gentle formula is perfect for removing all of my makeup, especially my tricky and usually hard to remove waterproof mascara. The best part is that it's not very oily, so it doesn't leave my face feeling gross at all.
Yes to Carrots Hypoallergenic Facial Wipes
When it comes to makeup wipes, I used to just buy the ones that are on sale. They are usually around eight or nine dollars a pack, and I can go through these really quickly, so they add up and are kind of costly. The ones that I have had the most success with, however, are these from Yes to Carrots. I opt for these to remove my face makeup, and I find that they do the job surprisingly well. I also love the fact that they don't leave a strong, irritating and chemical scent, which is my main problem with makeup wipes.
Brooklyn Bar Facial Exfoliant in Lychee Tea ($16)
I use this product at night when I'm finished removing my makeup. This gentle exfoliant from a small shop in New York City is made from all-natural ingredients, including Himalayan salts and rosehip oil. I splash some water on my face and take a small amount of product and gently rub in circular motions. The salts instantly dissolve. This product smells wonderful and leaves my face so soft and moisturized!
Gallipot Exquisite Facial Serum ($15)
I swear by using some sort of argon oil on my skin. Typically, straight argon oil tends to be overkill, so I really like this one from a Seattle company called Gallipot. This facial serum is a superpower of oils and includes avocado oil, meadow foam seed oil, carrot seed oil, rosehip oil, argon oil and Vitamin E. I use this product sparingly, as a small amount goes a long way. I like to use this at night, so that when I'm sleeping my skin can really absorb the benefits.
Kiehl's Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque ($24)
Every once in awhile, when I feel like my skin needs a little extra TLC, I like to use a clay masque. I tend to use this one from Keihl's about once every two weeks. I have tried a variety of masques, including random drug store finds and various ones from Korea, but this one is my favorite. It contains Amazonian White Clay, which helps to draw out unnecessary oil, dirt and toxins that clog pores.
