The other day, my friend and I decided to go hiking at a rather atypical LA spot. Most of the time, people tend to frequent popular locations such as Malibu, Topanga and Runyon, but we chose to go somewhere much closer to the Westside: the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. This place is right down the street from my house and I can't believe that I waited this long to check it out.
I didn't get to take a picture, but there's 282 stairs from the bottom to the top of the overlook. Be careful; they're super steep and uneven, but definitely a great workout. If they're not your thing, there's also plenty of scenic trails. It's a rewarding trek, because the view is beautiful. It's almost a 360 view of Los Angeles; you can see the beach, the Hollywood sign and DTLA, depending on the visibility.
Another perk is that the Baldwin Hills overlook has a great recreation center and the bathrooms are very clean and sanitary, unlike other public areas. There's also plenty of street parking on Jefferson, and also a lot that charges $6. If you plan on spending a lot of time there, then it's a great deal.
I'm so happy I got to come here! It's only five minutes from my house, so I'm gonna make it a priority to stop by more often. I'm not a big fan of working out... because I'm really lazy, but I do enjoy hiking. Plus, the views are amazing and it's basically my backyard!
